Sex Tech News Roundup 2016-03-21
From PR Gnus in Washington, Internet Buttplugs.
- Eagerly We Await the Coming of the Sex Robots - Motherboard
- For having gone under a month ago, comingle sure are getting a lot of press these days. It seems they've turned their sights from Arduino sex toys to media education about the plights of trying to create new sex tech, both of which are goals I can get behind, so this isn't a complaint. This article in Motherboard goes over patent issues, funding issues, and just how much it sucks to be a small player in the internet buttplug game.
- The Sex Robots are Coming - Atlas of the Future
- HEY LOOK IT'S COMINGLE AGAIN. Granted this was published a week before they closed but still. Also covers Arse Elektronika and the Campaign Against Sex Robots, which...
- The Ethical Crisis Behind the Rise of Sexbots - Milk
- ... is the topic of the next article in the roundup, and my fucking god I am so, so sick of this. For those not aware, there's a campaign against sex robots which says they'll "further objectify women and children" and basically ruin society. It's railing against the Occam's Razor solution of the future of sex tech, that the optimal sex tech will be "robot replica humans", which is complete bullshit. It's a great press grab since there's so much sex robot press already (see, for instance, prior 2 articles), but completely negates how fucking complex of a solution that actually is. Anyways, yeah. There's another article about it. I'll stop now.
- How to Hack a Sex Toy - Tech Companies Warn Public on Growing Cyber Risks - Venture Beat/Reuters
- Marketing attention whores/"Security" Firm Trend Micro decided to pull their own CSI: Cyber plot and control a "hacked" sex toy on stage. Suddenly everyone gives a shit, even though there's no proof of hacking, it easily could've just been API access. Anyways, if you really want to be scared for a future, just follow @InternetOfShit on twitter.
- 9 Bits of Tech that Will Change Your Sex Life
- Stupid listicle that doesn't actually contain anything new. Why am I even linking this. Don't click on it.
Guess I'm grumpy this week. Again.
